After the 1992 incident, both Nevers and Budzyn were instructed by their attorneys not to speak to the press. As a result, the press obtained all their stories from other sources, initially from convicted felons previously arrested by the officers. Several hundred articles were printed, virtually all of which were slanted against the officers and many of which contained misinformation and falsehoods. Since the release of Walter Budzyn in July of 1997, the press has been more objective in its reporting, but there are still factual errors being printed and many articles that are obviously slanted. The most glaring fault we have found with most of the current articles is the sin of omision. Most journalists seem to look for a good sound bite or two to compose their essay around, then add one or two quotes from anyone with a title, and they are finished. Errors are rarely corrected and 95% of the actual facts are never printed at all. This is NOT COMPREHENSIVE INVESTIGATIVE REPORTING. If you want the whole story, please don't rely on these articles.
